Indicators/electrics
Hi all
A question for all you genius crm owners. Bought a crm and I've not ridden for 10 years and I'm use to having indicators, none fitted on the bike ( feel a bit vulnerable without them) so my question is how can I fit them? No obvious sign of ever having any other than the indicator stork. Cant find any wires relating to them either but must be something somewhere. As said before I'm not a motorcycle guru when it comes to mechanics but my electronics is atroscious, well i can only just manage to do a plug so would appreciate any help at all.
Thanks
John

Re: Indicators/electrics
Whatever model CRM you have they all originally had indicators. Generally owners disconnect the indicators at the removable connectors which allows for easy reconnection of the original indicators. The remaining connectors are then usually taped up which sometimes makes them more difficult to find. The connectors are found under the headlight surround and under the seat aroud the rear mudguard.
However you have 2 potential problems. First is that you are probably trying to connect up non-original indicators and these will have different length wires and more importantly different connectors from original which you will then have to change. Second that a previous owner has removed the indicator wiring completely or cut back the connecting wires.
The first scenario is obviously easier to deal with but if your knowledge of electrics is really that bad then you have an issue and should probably leave it to a professional or a mate who knows more. The second is much more involved and from your description would be impossible for you to do.
I suggest you try to find the original connectors and take it from there. Be aware that they may be covered in electrical tape.

Re: Indicators/electrics
Thanks mate. Been in garage tonight to start the servicing and just to become familiar with the workings of my crm. Just so you know it is a crm 250r (what it says on the log book) 1991 on a h reg. found the connectors and they was exactly where you said they were. The ones under the seat next to the pgm unit have been disconnected correctly and have just been unplugged. They are orange and blue. So with finding these I began to take the headlight unit off and looking for the same colours I found them behind a insulating covering where the headlight connects to, however there is a green wire that hasn't anything plugged into but I suspect this might be due to the fact there is an after market twin light unit fitted to the bike and this plug mustnt be in use.
I phoned leisure trail today to get a price on some indicators. £64 a set for original Honda or £32 for after market. Looks like after market ones will be used and I will be mindful to length of wiring and connectors as you said. I am competent enough to undertake any modifications I may need to wiring. I'm not brilliant at electrics but the reason I said I was that bad was I've been reading lots on this forum about alsorts of electrical issues and swapping of units to tune the engines which just went over my head so put myself in the category of rubbish compared to the whizzes on here.
While your on here need to check something by you if thats ok. Clutch has been dragging so before any clutch work I might do I decided to drain oil and get some fresh. This is where my problem started.. I went to local bike shop and all they had in was a SAE 75w and this totally threw me as I've found on the manual that I should use 10w 30. I didn't understand why it didn't state the 10w 30. The only oil I could find with them numbers was a 4t engine oil to which I assumed I should not use coz it wasn't get r oil. So I we to a local bike mechanic and he tried to sell me a sickolene Foch medium gear oil. It stated for 2 strokes on the bottle but had a stamp of 20w 50 so the argument began.... He was adamnet that it would be ok but walked away scratching my head . This seemed to thick for me so I thought I'd wait and ta to one of you guys for advice..
Sorry for the lengthy post and I hope you managed to stay awake.
Can I ask your name by the way it's just I feel a cock calling you knackeredmk1 lol thanks again for your advice.

Re: Indicators/electrics
In reverse order -
My name is Steve, but there are a lot of Steves on here. Call me knd1 for short
.
Any light weight 2 stroke gearbox oil will do. I usually get mine from an MX race supplier.
There should be a green wire connector for the rear lights (there maybe 2 or a double like the front). The green is neutral (-ve). Good luck.
Mk1/2/3 CRM250s are all called CRM250R. The letter after the R denotes what mk they are. See - viewtopic.php?f=20&t=5282
