Ar funny idle

Post by amturnham » 20 Apr 2012, 19:37

So took my ar out for a quick spin this afternoon and first real blast since owning and after warming up and riding it around 2 miles i stopped at a set of lights and allof a sudden the bike started to idle very strangely like up down up down? What made it worst was some old dear in the bus stop next to the lights looked at me like I was an alien.
I rod off and through the gears its fine goes sweet but its not until I shut the throttle off it does this.I am wandering if the carbs set up right and have struggled to find any info about setup etc.
Any help would be appreciated.
Cheers Aaron

:D Welcome to the world of irregular AR tick over.
I expect the old dear was surprised to witness something even less regular than she was   ;) .

Check the pilot jet is scrupulously clean, spray it with some carb cleaner, sometimes a new jet is needed, but, they NEVER tick over like any other MK, I think it's the active radical doing it's bits.

new pilot jet and set the mixture adjustment properly (do search for how to do this) may fix this or will at least minimize it. its one of those things where some bike will always do it a bit and others won't.

Ok, but when I say irregular its very bad. Makes me want to turn it off everytime I come to a stop also does it when you shut the throttle off but are still moving.
Thanks for advice

theres two - one that sits just in front of the CDI PN 36163-KAE-771 and one that sits just behind your lower oil tank PN 36162-KAE-771

hope that helps

Its the one which has only two pipes to it, not th one with three pipes. One which goes to diaphram thing on top of carb.
Cheers

:? What gives you that idea?, they can be tested with a battery, you should hear the solenoid opening and shutting.
I thought the same thing when I had an AR, and it was not the case.
Have you tried richening the pilot mix to see if that makes any appreciable difference.
Are all other variables in stock and serviceable limits?
The stupid push/pull throttle on the AR's can be problematical, I took the return run of my TTR, with no detrimental effects, in fact the throttle now springs back much more definitely.

The diaphragm isn't lifting allowing the bike to idle so previous owner had lifted the other adjustment on other side and that caused bike to idle funny, I know this sounds a bit Heath robinson but could I fix other side up so that I idles without diaphram.
I went out this vending on it and it rode great apart from this.
I've owned bundles of various types of two strokes and never came across a set up like this :?
Cheers Aaron
