idea to stop brake levers and gear shifters bending

Post by fishtail » 17 Mar 2013, 04:22

not sure about this.. picked this up on the TW forum - thinking about tryin it on my CRM since I am always getting bamboo in my back brake lever!

basically you get a bit of cable of the right length and crimp a loop thru the end of each lever..

has anyone else tried this? whats the success rate?

i can see it might stop one situation happening;- I've had bamboo / vines come in-between the brake lever and the clutch case a few times.. its tended to jam the back brake on,, so this might actually stop that happening..

bamboo and vines are the bane of me life..,,, the vines here would defiintely let tarzan swing from tree to tree, they really strong!

I was going down a trail today vine got caught on the handle bar - I didnt even see it! totally wrench the bars I end ed up off the bike again ( actually it pinned my leg down and took me a while to get the bugger off me! )

I'm gonna have to widen the trails a bit more I think!

Only of any use if your levers stick out a lot like on older bikes, a bashplate does a good job.

I guess my levers are bent! actually the bash plate is doing a good job - I can see lots of new dings and scratches in it... altho it might have slipped a biut cos the sump plug no longer lines up... and the water pump took a hit the other day,..

I might give this a go ( when I get my bike out again ) becos it is has suffered from this quite a bit!

and on the wheel hubs,,, I'm getting lots of vines and brambles wrapped around the hubs,,, :(

I have similar on my brake pedal but my pedal is tight to the casing ie hardly protrudes so not likely to catch bamboo!

Set the lever much higher than it would normally be, yes I know it's a pain, but at least it's out of harms way, and likely to be un-mollested by rocks.
