crm 250 ar powervalve trouble

Post by nathan98ar » 17 Apr 2014, 09:44

hi i recently purchased a 1998 crm 250 ar with 9500 miles from new :] upon riding the bike i thought it felt abit flat bottom end so i took the powervalve cover off to check it was working but upon starting the bike and revving it the powervalve wasnt moving at all and was stuck open. i disconnected the cables and then the servo from the harness cleaned the connector pins and the plug itself put it back together and it was working perfect i rode around the block a few times and all was good. i started the bike up the next day and exactly the same problem so i disconnected it again tryed cleaning more but would not work :s upon moving the cables up and down they seem rather stiff compared to the last time so i took the full powervalve apart to lube it all up making sure to take lots of pictures to make sure it goes back together the same way. both the motors run very smooth when turned round by hand but when connected to the bike and start the bike up and rev it the motors dont spin so i realise it must be an electrical fault? any one got any ideas where to look and what to check etc ? any help would be much appreciated. also when trying to put the 2 motors half of the powervalve back into the half with all the little cogs in once it is back together the cables wont move at all but when i dont put the motors half in all the cogs are working perfectly and are definately in the right way . please help

Look at - viewtopic.php?f=20&t=5260&p=40776#p40776

Pray you don't have a broken ECU. These can sometimes be repaired or you have to replace at mega£. - viewtopic.php?f=20&t=5263

Leisure trail quoted me for a PGM recently £484.50 though!!!
They can be repaired though if it is the PGM.

Sounds like the AR curse, Any one in your area with an AR on whose bike you could plug your into? Don't try another unit on your bike whatever you do.

I dont know anybody with a crm in the area i have only ever seen 3 o f these bikes and owned 2. my friend had n AR and never had a probem with it. should the cables be quite hard to move by hand ? ive opened everything up cleaned it grased it and put it back together but it is still quite hard ?. is there any way to check the plug what the powervalve connects to with thebike started with some revs ? and help would be much appreciated

Does sound like the PGM is cooked. Mine did exactly the same but mine closed rather than opening leaving me with no power above idle speed. you will have to send the PGM to Greece unless Fotis is interested in fixing it?

just read your reply!
It would be benificial to take the whole loom off and clean all of the plugs before something does get cooked!

It is very typical behaviour of a faulty ECU.

Mine did the same but stuck closed like I said. it would be fine for a while then close during a ride until finally it just gave up completely.
Nick will test it when you send it to him before he cuts it open.
