plastic melding

i think it might be on this site that i heard about melding (melting/welding) plastics using a spare piece of similar plastic as a filler rod & using a soldering iron to melt it. I had a cracked and holed lens on my trailer fog light, happened to have some transparent red plastic hanging about & gave it a go. i think the original article was about melding CRM plastics.

ABS plastic melds very well, and is just as strong as original, you must always use a similar plastic or it will not work.

A very hot soldering iron is also required and used with a light touch.
