remove
the pressure plates, clutchplates, pushrod and top hat

tip to hold the clutch ,,get some old cloth and work it inbetween the basket and the clutch hub,This will jam it up allowing you to remove the nut once you have removed the locating lock washer off ..
also
If you have some old clutch plates ,, you could make a holding tool by riviting a friction plate and a metal plate together..

Welcome back Duck - you back for good?

I did the same thing myself last year and ended up having to buy a new basket - like you I thought that I could get away with jamming a bit of rag in to lock the thing up - I even tried jamming a screwdriver between the inner basket and outer basket - thats how I snapped one of the lugs in the clutch centre.

I may have some spare clutch plates and could knock something together for you - ill have a look in the garage.

I got mine off like this - I got two lengths of iron plate - about 10mm wide, 400-500mm long and 3 or 4 mm thick. I then drilled a hole in each end of both strips of metal (4 holes). I then bolted both strips to opposite lugs in the clutch centre and then bolted the free ends together. I used that to hold the thing down whilst I undid the nut.

Ill have a look for those plates but if you think you can build a tool to do it let me know if you need a diagram.

Cheers.

Duck,

I had a look in the garage but I only have spare friction plates - you need a chain plate so i cant help.

Did you try my other suggestion? You havent responded so I assume youve fixed it.

Went to the local wrecker and bought a new (well, seccond hand, but new to me...) clutch hub. Also got 2 plates for $4. riveted them together, flattened lock washer some more, bought new ratchet, tapped ratchet handle and broke it. Still in same situation, but a friend has come across a 12volt rattle gun. Hopefully this weekend it will come off. Had some trouble finding clutch cover gaskets - really hoping that a mk2 is the same as an AR... Good on Honda for bringing the CRM to Australia for a whole 2 years. At least some parts are similar.
And Yeah Bargos - I'm Back!

i had same problem inc breaking clutch basket, it was over a year ago, but if i remember rightly i got it off by securing the other side, i think it was the magnito or whatever you call the charger, this is a lot more solid and easier to get a grip of. i remember it was a real B******s of a job though. good luck.

The bike is still standing in the garage. I have broken a ratchet trying to remove the nut. Is this thing a left hand thread?
