Reg/Rec mounting
The trusty steed let me down today in the middle of a green lane! the power of dreams became the power of nightmares
I noticed the GPS kept shutting down meaning the charging power was being lost. next the indicator lights on the dash stopped working and eventually the bike started to misfire until it died.
I suspected Reg/Rec due to how it failed and was right. I have a spare brand new one so after I got rescued I cut the old one off and fitted the new one. She started first kick.
My question is whether anyone has successfully mounted the reg/rec anywhere else where it doesnt get caked in mud on the lanes? I am convinced this is why they fail with such regularity.
I might try and make a mount a bit like a tax disc holder and hang it somewhere out of the mud but in the airflow.

Re: Reg/Rec mounting
What about on some sprung clip arrangement inside the air box? It could then be removed to carry out air filter cleaning.

Re: Reg/Rec mounting
Wouldn't it get too hot mounted inside the airbox?

Possibly, but unlikely. There is quite an air flow through the air box.Alternatively what about up by the headstock, though some loom work might be required.

Re: Reg/Rec mounting
I am thinking of mounting it where the horn is and move the horn behind the rad somewhere.

Re: Reg/Rec mounting
Tight squeeze but got it mounted OK.
If you go too high it gets trapped between the frame and forks on full lock. if you go too low it hits the front mud guard.
Horn squeezes in behind the rad on the rear mount (just).
