yeah - I may be taking the bits to them tomorrow morning - have already phoned them and they have said there is no problem with having a look at them. I would agree about the mains but don't like the sound of having to drift them out of the casing, and was hoping that if nothing is actually wrong i would get away without splitting the case halves open, but as you say - if I've already gone this far then it's daft not to....

Ed,

Any idea what mileage your bike has done?

aye 9.5K very low really which is why I was surprised when they said they thought the mains were going. But apparently occasional use can do as much damage as high mileage - the bearings can rust up etc. I know on model aircraft engines there is an oil you can put through them to stop similar problems, but their fuel has nitro content can't think why the fuel / oil mix on a bike would knacker bearings if not used....

Hi Ed,

9.5K is nothing for a bike like the CRM however I guess you dont know what oil has been used in it before...? I understand that oil, if left long enough can separate - this could cause problems...

Did you manage to get the engine out and down to your mate at the garage?

indeed - thats half the reason I was so p1ssed when they siad it was knackered.

Not yet - hoping to some time this weekend. Have got al the case bolts out but left the two halves together so they can feel the main bearings as well.

on a slightly different note - while the engine is out I'm taking the opportunity to tidy the frame up. Has anyone used the PJ1 frame paint from LT ? The white seems to have a slightly more yellow tinge than the paint already on the frame :o/ It's labelled as Honda matched for 1991 onwards according to the can.

Thanks

Ed
