Engine holding revs

As Slider says above it could be notching on the clutch basket. When you pull in the clutch you release the pressure binding the plates together but you do NOT force them apart. They might be sticking in the notches but the lever will feel exactly the same to you.

Also worth checking Chronyx is the carb slide might be sticking, and the spring might be worn or broken

I had a DTR do this. Turned out some numpty had adjusted the throttle slide tickover screw while the slide was at it's lowest point and thus the screw drilled a small notch/hole into the throttle slide instead of raising it, thus whenever the throttle was closed, the screw would catch on this notch and the revs would be held higher than the tickover should be. I took the slide out and filed the bit the adjuster screw sits on flat, removing the notch. Was fine after that..

My Mk2 does this- when riding for a while, the revs are higher when static and the only was to drop them is to slip the clutch in a gear which drags the revs down, so I suspect a sticking carb piston/cable.

I have the same problem with my 1989 MK1, so does a friend of mine with the same model, therefore I think it's a comun desease on this motorbike. You should'nt worry about this. I don't, since I have a serious problem with my engine.
