Re: Knackered's New Project - Lightly Modded Trail Mk1
These are the XR400 forks off the original Mk1 project with the original yokes milled out to 43mm. I fitted brand new XR400 forks to the original project bike having revalved and resprung them to the same options. Compression damping reduced harshness, 0.45 Eibach springs and 5wt oil to standard level. New steering head bearings.

Re: Knackered's New Project - Lightly Modded Trail Mk1
Put XR650 wheels on and started today - easy peesy
. Now I've just got to fit the brakes and rewire the brakes and lights - I hate electricals
.
++++ Arrival of seat. I've found it impossible to get a decent seat (CR not CRM) so I've bitten the bullet and splashed out on a new CR500 one from Honda
. Unforunately they keep putting back the delivery date. - First it was 15 March, then the mid 20s March, then 2 April, now it's mid May
. I was going to put the new seat on my other bike and use the one currently on that for this bike and cut down the foam a bit.

Re: Knackered's New Project - Lightly Modded Trail Mk1
Cancelled the new seat. I've found another CR500 one from the US, same year but with a torn cover and the fixings damaged. I'll be modifying those bits in a way that will make it unuseable as a CR seat, so I hope it will be fine. Seemed a waste to wreck a perfectly good seat and this way will be cheaper

Re: Knackered's New Project - Lightly Modded Trail Mk1
Having problems bleeding brakes.
I managed to get some pressure into the front and then zip tied the lever back to the bars to pressurise the system. Left for 2 days and now pressure is good.
I just can't get any pressure into the rear though. Got the fluid going though and sucking from the slave cylinder end, but absolutley no pressure on the pedal
. Spent about 2 hours on this. It was really difficult on the other bike as well but I had done it by this time................

Try just pressing the pedal gently, with bleed nipple tight, but fluid res top off. Press slightly an keep it in one position for a bit.
I find when doing this that tiny bubbles come back into the res. Then it seems to create enough pressure to bleed via the nipple

Don't need John's help anyway
.
I took the caliper off the back and held it up so the brake line went vertical. This seemed to clear the air and the back brake now works

This version will never make a 'Sticky' as it's a copy. A sister to the first Mk1 if you will
