2 stroke racer lab

so chuffed with this guy . been having issues with my power valve for about a year now and was at the stage where i had to stop myself taking a hammer to it lol . my power valve showed all the symptoms of cdi failure but my gut feeling was the cdi was ok . long story short bought the battery eliminator from the guy in greece and while waiting on it coming decided to give my electrics a good servicing as the best voltage i could get from my reg/reg was around 4 volts . stator checked out fine along with reg/rec so it could only be down to my very fubard loom . spent 2 days making a loom from scratch . new plugs with connectors etc . stuck it all back together , still 4 volts . today my parcel from greece arrived . 30 minutes fetling and bingo . 13.30 volts tops and fully working powervalve . what a fantastic bit of kit . thought this might help a few of you that are having the same kind of issues

Chris, What is the "battery eliminator". There is no battery on a CRM so what is being eliminated? :?

Hi Andrew . yeah its just a capacitor but the lad from greece calls it a battery eliminator lol . fantastic bit of kit if your bike is kicking out low volts . it was the last thing to try before sending my cdi off for repair . just had a gut feeling it was ok . still cant get to the bottom of the low volts problem . tested stator and reg/rec , they both checked out fine but could only manage 4.5 volts top . the low voltage was the problem with my PV . this gizmo has sorted the electrical gremlins out

I have been measuring the voltage coming from the reg.rectifier . the red + wire and then the earth - of the multimeter to frame . the Reg/rec earth is already bolted to the frame so i would think thats the obvious way bud .

lads a fast way of checking a good spark is to take the plug out and leave it hanging on the coil.
then with your left arm line up the bottom of the plug with the radiator or frame and pump the kickstart with your right arm

if your left arm flings up then happy days if it dont then there aint enough voltage going through

simple bit extreme but beneficial

oooooooooooooooooffft . brings back memories . done this many a time as a kid trying to get the honda cub 90 to start . is sue a hellfire way of testing out if thespark plugs goosed lol

Are the wires exposed Chris when the reg/rec is dropped from the frame?

Looked tonight and see the cable you've mentioned but no terminal or contact from below

Err, perhaps not if your fitted with a pace maker, or have a weak heart, probably on balance not to be recommended, I think it only takes a few volts to upset normal heart rhythm.

sorry bud forgot to mention my loom isnt standard . i dont have lights or indicators etc as i run my bike on a day time mot . i have my reg/rec earthed straight to the frame and the posative is just a bullit conector to the loom supply
