Well I managed to break the bike and myself on the Hafren rally, bike came off a little worse than I did with a cracked water pump (ironic as it was the bash plate that bent up and cracked it). Ordered a new water pump housing from LT who only had the gold coloured one for the AR in stock. Thought I would just rub it down and spray it but it seems that all the high temperature paints Halfords do are matt - has anyone done something similar and managed to source a gloss high temperature paint with a good match to the aluminium / silver of the CRM mk2 Engine ? If I can get a good match i'm tempted to do the rest of it as well as a fair bit of the paint has rubbed off over the years.

Try the PJ1 range of spray paints…..not the cheapest! But its good kit.
Done my casings a year or so ago with it, and its still looking OK.

excellent - will probably just order on line - which colour did you go for and did you have to use the laquer as well to get a gloss finish ?

Personally… I’m not over keen on the gloss finish…. So I went for the satin black.

When I sprayed my casings etc….the only prep work I done was to do a good degrease and clean off, lightly abrade with a VERY fine wet & dry paper, cleaned off with acetone or propanol (cant remember which!) and left them to dry for half an hour.
When doing the spraying you’ll find that the spray is a very fine/thin mist….don’t try to cover what you are painting in 1 or 2 coats…(you’ll get sags and runs in it!) it will take at least 4 to 6 coats(it drys fairly quick) to give you a good finish and covering.
Also a good idea is to try to find a fairly dust free area!? which is dry and warm.

no - don't think 'er indoors would be too chuffed with that idea ! Though....I was allowed to do some prep work on the bike in the lounge ready for the Haffren as we don't have a garage and it was dark and raining. Couldn't believe my luck, bless her (it was her suggestion not mine !!!)

I bought a knackered DT125 as my first bike, it sat in the middle of the lounge for 2 months while I got it running, had to watch telly around it...

Was single then surprisingly....

She lives !!!! after several weeks of hand getting better, bad weather etc etc I finally got the water pump housing sprayed and fitted yesterday. After several minutes of kicking the bike over it started up and all seems to be well - no leaks etc
Really think the Kickstart mech is on the way out though as several times I went to kick it over and it all slipped as though splines were missing - not good suspect that will be expensive.
