Fork caps

Hi all,

Went ot remove the fork caps from my MkIII in order to replace one fork seal and change the oil in both legs.

However, I don't think they've ever been off and the 17mm hex head is obviously made from an alloy that has the strength od Swiss cheese as they both just rounded straight off. Bugger!

Anyone have any recommendations for getting them off?

Regards

Rufus

File the edges square again and whack(with hammer)a socket or an impearial spanner on it so it fits as tight as a ducks arse, tapping the head (top)while turning will help,,If you have the tools you could also warm(i say WARM )up the outer edge of the fork to exspand it abit ,,wd 40 or light machine oil should penatrate it ok ,,If all else fails ,,use a vice of sorts and turn it with that

Hi,

Have you removed the leg from the triple clamp, more precisely have you released the the two pinch bolts on the top clamp?

They exert force on the tube (try tightening the caps after you've tightened the pinch bolts, solid).
