revving its nuts off re should i burn it

Hi all after not being able to start my mark 2.2 i tried to start the engine with some extra gas.
see my last post re should i set fire to it.
It worked. I used easy start sprayed into the throat of the carb with the air filter off and the engine ran. It really ran. fast. The engine started and ran exceptionally fast and I noticed a couple of things.
A couple of times when the engine was running if I took the choke off it stopped. but not always
Sometimes the key would stop the engine and sometimes it would have no effect and the only way to stop the engine was to stall it.
I have figured that I must clean the air filter element.
Perhaps the main jet is blocked again, should I use an inline filter?
Perhaps the carb slide that holds the needle is sticking?
Should I check the power valve, perhaps that is the issue? sticking? what about the powervalve servo motor? i have a spare so ill try that too.

CDI or rec/ regulator?i have a spare of both so i could swap these and try
I will try these checks, do you think there is anything else I have missed.

Sorry if i am being unclear, my question is is there anything else i could check or perhaps some one has another experience that could be a possible solution.

When you say top end rebuild what exactly was chopped beaten rebuild replaced, why did it sit for 2 months what went wrong with it to put it away ?????

It had a top end rebild after piston siezure,oil pump stopped working.
so it had rebore, new piston rings, and gasket set.
