MK1 suspension bearings

Having found I had excess play in my rear suspension linkage on my MK1, I decided to strip it all down & replace any worn bearings. The following list explains what bearings were found & if needed what I replaced them with. (all dimensions in mm)

1. Swingarm pivot bearings.
Originals were marked ‘TLA2012Z’, they measured 26 o/d x 20 i/d x 12 long. 2 off in each side. (4 total)
The shafts measured 20 o/d x 15 i/d x 63 long. 1 off each side. I decided not to replace the shafts as these are about £13 each from LT but instead use wider bearings that would run on the unworn area of the shafts.
Standard replacement bearings available from most bearing suppliers would be ‘HK2012’
However I chose ‘HK2018RS’. The bearings are 6mm wider than standard. The bearings also have a Rubber Seal built in, this will help keep out the crap.
There are two oil seals next to the inner bearings, measuring 26 o/d x 20 i/d, these were not worn so they did not get replaced.

2. Swingarm to ‘Dog Bones’ bearings.
Original was marked ‘17BM2425’, it measured 24 o/d x 17 i/d x 25 long. 1 off.
The shaft measured 17 o/d x 10 i/d x 39 long. 1 off
Oil seals measured 27 o/d x 17 i/d. 2 off
None of these parts were worn so they did not get replaced.

3. Shock lower to triple body.
Original was marked ‘15BM2217’, it measured 22 o/d x 15 i/d x 17 long. 1 off.
The shaft measured 15 o/d x 10 i/d x 30 long. 1 off
Oil seals measured 25 o/d x 15 i/d. 2 off
None of these parts were worn so they did not get replaced.

4. Frame to triple body.
Originals were marked ‘15BM2112’; they measured 21 o/d x 15 i/d x 12 long. 2 off. These were badly rusted & fell apart upon removal.
Standard replacement bearings available from most bearing suppliers would be ‘HK1512’
However I chose ‘HK1514RS’. The bearings are 2mm wider than standard as they have a Rubber Seal built in, this will help keep out the crap.
The shaft measured 15 o/d x 10 i/d x 36 long. 1 off. This was badly worn & needed replacing. This is about £8.50 from LT but I managed to get one machined from stainless steel at a local machine shop.
The oil seals are the ‘cup’ type that fit over the triple body; these were not too badly worn so they were not replaced.

5. ‘Dog Bones’ to triple body. (The same sizes as ‘4’ above)
Originals were marked ‘15BM2112’; they measured 21 o/d x 15 i/d x 12 long. 2 off. These were badly rusted & fell apart upon removal.
Standard replacement bearings available from most bearing suppliers would be ‘HK1512’

The replacement bearing sizes quoted above are available at most bearing suppliers or on line at http://www.simplybearings.co.uk

These bearings were changed on my MK1, I do not know if other MK’s have the same bearings.
