went down to wiltshire with four mates for a days riding. we stayed at the travel lodge at amesbury for £36 per room, so as to hit the trail early, and get a full days riding.
we headed north onto salisbury plain for our morning route, we found that even with a map and GPS system we had to keep stopping to get our bearings, the routes we found were mostly large un tarmaced roads and not all that much fun. after a couple of hours of this we decided to head down to the south of salisbury, heading SW on the A354 for a couple of miles brings you to coombe bisset, opposite the church is the start of a byway, getting onto this was the start of a whole network of excellent routes which kept us amused for hours. we rode down to a place called Martin an came back out via an old roman road at stratford Tony.
the day was very wet so there were some BIG puddles to cross. one blind one was about 60ft across an provided some laughs to those who had already crossed, watching us struggle.
I really enjoyed myself and would recommend this area. nice to have a few hills as I come from Essex and we dont have any.
anyone from Kent as i fancy trying that soon.
going to thetford forest in a couple of weeks so if its any good I`ll post a report.

sounds like it ended up a fun day out for all involved. I have ridden the ridgeway from reading to the end which is in sailsbury (I think). done a few routes through some wooded sections and they were awsome with massive muddy puddles to cross. I wish I could have spent more time riding there but at the end of the day I had to ride all the way back to Slough along the A4 which was no fun after all the offroading.
