Hi, just recently acquired a crm, thought it would be a brilliant bike to ride when 17, but the stupid thing keeps breaking down, one day it will start, the next it wont, ive had 3 different cdi's all known to be working, 2 reg rec's and still no fun. Had it running before, ran fan up the street then the next day not even a spark, any ideas guys as to what is up?

Hi Worksopcrm. Try stripping and cleaning the kill switch, and also check out the side stand switch. Both of them can be problematic. Good luck. Gwyn :)

Hi Gwyn, the side stand mod has already been carried out, and the kill switch was stripped down and tested yesterday.

Have you checked out the ignition switch? I had a Dr350 once, and i had to strip and clean the ignition switch quite often as the contacts would get dirty and full of crud. And if i sprayed WD40 down the ignition barrel it would make it even worse.

I had a similar problem on a MK 2 recently and it does drive you nuts, great some days start every time next day no spark, there were two problems :

1 The kill switch had an intermittent break in one of the wires, found whilst
using a meter and wriggling/pulling wires. took it apart and resoldered
on the switch. Even rang LT and they said even if it looks ok and has
been tested it can still be faulty, try a spare if you can get hold of one

2. The pick up points on the flywheel were rusty, these were then rubbed
cleaned and it now starts like a good un every time

Just wondering what the electrical engineer said? im guessing he said its ok. i think the answer is in the previous posts, cant be anything else.but make sure it is a spark problem.they wont spark much on a kick and its easy to miss. im sure theres lots of info in previous posts

Rightio, checked the kill switch, ran a current threw it whilst wriggling, no joy, had the flywheel off today and the pick up points are kinda rusty so going to give them a good clean up, gonna inspect the stator plate aswell, will keep updated as soon as above had been tried. Many Thanks

stupid q but when you replaced the coil did you replace the lead and the cap??

or at least re-make the connections.

apparently reg rec fault can cause a fault with cdi coil and [power valve motor black thing with control cables]. worth alook/.
