Hi,

Has anyone played with the oil level switch? My oil light was not working (just bought the bike). I suspected the switch. I removed the switch from the frame and found that there was a spring jammed sideways under the float. This was holding the float up and stopping the light from turning on. I removed the spring and just installed the switch as is. Gravity is the only thing causing the float to drop and turn on the light how it is now.
I'm not so sure its going to work all that well.

Is there normally a spring somewhere in the float switch?

Does the float simply rely on gravity to drop the float when the oil level drops?

Also has anyone come across a good way to seal the float switch in the frame. Mine was leaking badly so I used some black rtv. Is is much better but still has a slight weeping leak of oil.

Silicone/rtv should seal the switch in ok as long as you clean the area properly,it works on engines.
Then again the switch is not really needed(unless you get a massive leak)because most people DON'T rely on the light and topping up becomes second nature.

I tried a few different stuff to stop the leak but it only lasted a short while
so ended up biting the bullet and forking out £35 ish for a new one -
bit gutting, but well pleased I'm not mopping up after the fooker anymore.
It will only get worse.
