Well i actually rode the bike properly for the first time yesterday ! On and Mainly off road !

What an absolutely astounding bike to ride ! I didnt want to get off it and turned round on myself several times just to make sure it wasnt an easy line i had picked through the tricky sections !

Thats the ramblings over now for the techy stuff.


The thing is when i dab the rear brake or nip the front in i loose power it just cuts out altogether. could this be a wrongly wired headlamp ? Its about the only 3 wires i have touched and now the brake has doubled itself up as a kill switch !


I have stripped the bike mainly for cleaning purposes as its been stood for a couple of years dirty after a ride.......... any way mucho elbow greasio later and plenty of WD40 its fit for riding with a few subtle mods and several stickers i have also adorned the bike with indicators and tail light and a head light ! the tail lamp and indicators are stock standard OE or whatever its called "Cheers SLIDER" so i have retained the original wiring there and as much as possible and used a UFO Shining for the front illumination, can this be the single point of concern !

Or is there something more sinister involved !

I would suspect something odd with the brake light switches. It might be a short in the brake-light wiring, or maybe even inside the bulb.

First try taking the brake light bulb out. It might be that simple.

could the live be grounding out on the frame somewhere and shorting out the ignition circuit ?

Strongly suspect both above are correct.

I will start this weekend when i get home ! firstly with the bulb then i,ll disconnect front and rear swithes in turn and see what that does.

i,m crap at vehicle electrics i just cant get my head round it at all !

I take it to check the live is not grounding out on the frame i will need to "Once the above is complete" trace the wiring right along its path to the switch source ?

yeah.. check all the wiring along its length..... id check the wiring over the entire bike... its not like there is alot of it.

make sure none of it has rubbed through and is shorting out with either the frame or another wire.

wrap it all up in decent quality black pvc electrical tape. and thats it.

ussually a good squirt of wd40 over the connectors doesnt go amiss too. or preferably a silicone sealant to keep water out of them altogether.

Andypugh ! you were right with the bulb thing ! not inside the bulb but outside, the metal cap round the bottom had a whisp of wire hangin off it about an inch long from inside where the lead type thig is on the bottom tbh the build quality is shite as the lugs dont even match up properly !

it was a bast!d to fit so i should have fecked it off there and then !

easily resolved and it wont affect my riding tomorrow ! just got my alpinestars this morning and will be bedding them in tomorrow.
