Water Impeller Removal

Post by simon foster » 17 Feb 2008, 19:54

Hello all, it has been around 2 years since my last confession.

The CRM has been sitting at the back of the garage, being ignored as I have discovered how much fun my 350 valve really is. I dragged the bike into the daylight, it started (reluctantly), The clutch will not engage.

I removed the oil pump. drained the water, undid all the 8mm bolts etc, I can not get the aluminium water impeller off the output shaft, hence I can not gain access to the clutch to see what is wrong as I can not get the case off.

Is there a special tool I should be using. Could someone talk me through the procedure please.

All the best

Simon

Put the bike into gear to stop the shaft turning and remove the impeller with a socket turning anticlockwise as with a normal nut.

If it is really rusted on there is a possibility that you will take the end off the water pump drive shaft and will need to replace that.

Thanks,

I will have to lock the back wheel and try again tomorow, there was no rust and I m pretty sure no one has been in the engine and been at the clutch, it looked like the nut on the end of the output shaft was painted with some sort of sealant to stop it corroding (I asume)

All the best

Just leave the oil pump and water pump in place. The gears just slide out of mesh when you pull the cover off. There is no need to disturb them.

The plates have stuck together [yes ?] IE clutch won't disengage drive? now you've gone that far with disassembly best carry on.When reassembling use kick start to "very gently" realign "Plastic" gears" take plug out to ease compression.
If this happens again sometimes just the heat generated from running the engine thins the oil enough to release the plates.
Its always worth a try in the first place .
