if the temp light is coming on it could be coolant problem, air bubbles trapped, water pump not working or maybe running lean.
check the coolant level on the expansion/header tank and in the radiator.
you might want to drain the coolant out with the drain plug on the water pump.
you could flush some water through a few times and the put drain plug back on
fill the radiator with at least 30% antifreeze to water. (any water doesnt have to be distilled)
pour in very slowly to stop air bubbles forming.
if there is air bubbles in the coolant system run the engine with the radiator cap off but be very carefull.
run the engine untill the bubbles stop coming to the top.
then give it rev and see if any bubbles come up. (should be ripples not bubbles)
take bike for a spin and then when its cooled down check radiator coolant level and top up if needed.
or it might be running lean the air mixture screw should be about 1.25 turns out for an mk2
also check the spark plug and see what sort of condition its in. (website below for spark plug analysis)
