Brake Caliper Issues...........

Post by scar » 22 Jul 2008, 09:10

Went to change the front disc pads on my MK3 and the screw mount that goes through the pads snapped. I spent the afternoon at a mates place and fashioned a new one out of an old bolt with a bench grinder and file.
Guess what, just gone to change the back pads and it has happened again, start to undo the thread and out comes 5mm of screw leaving the rest in place which like the front will now need drilling out, tapping and new screw mount fashioned.
Has anyone else had this ? Can new screw mount be purchased and if so from where.
I figure it is the hard steel pin corroding itself to the softer alloy casing.

The 5mm screw(removed with a slot head screw driver) is just a blanking screw that covers the "allen head pad retaining pin"

Like Gwyn says  . You don't need to drill it out. - just an Allen key :!:
