Hi, my name is Keith. I purchased a Mk2 in August this year only to have it stolen in September. The police recovered the majority of the bike for me after two weeks and having paid the recovery fee (how annoying is that!) I set about trying to source the parts I needed to put it back on the road.
A rough Mk2 came up on autotrader that had most of what I wanted so I bought that and set about transferring the lights, rear mudguard, silencer and brake light switches to make it road legal again. That left me with the majority of a Mk2 to play with. I've decided to rebuild this for something to do over Winter. I had bought a cheap KDX125 for this purpose off Ebay but investigation revealed a catalog of faults that make this a complete non starter as a project so if anyone wants any parts for a blue KDX125 contact me and I will check the status of the part in question.
I had started reading this site regularly, at first checking for the parts I needed and then for technical details. I have been searching the forums for information and have found some useful threads but I suspect over the next few weeks I will be looking for some information from those who have already solved the problems that I find.
I have been buying parts from Leisure Trail and find them very helpful. For some reason the misunderstood youth who took my bike took the side panel off and the rough bike I bought was hand painted blue so not the same quality as the rest of the original bike. I asked leisure trail but they not able to supply a side panel for the exhaust side. I have checked Ebay for weeks and no bodywork seems to come up at all. I have seen threads suggesting David Silver but when I called I didnt have enough details for them to quote so I need to revisit that one.
Are there any other common sources of parts that I can try?

Try to get hold of a parts manual with part numbers or some of the picture only versions that are on the Web. (I'm sorry I don't have any addresses. Others may ).

Other than LT and David Silvers, Lings (http://www.lings.com/lingscentralapp_co ... a2deede08d" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;) are good. eBay is another good source of parts. If you are ambitious then Rinkya (http://www.rinkya.com/membership/search ... nda+crm250" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;) is worth it for high value low weight items.

Hi, thanks for the reply. I have downloaded a Japanese manual earlier but the resolution was so low it wasnt much use. I bought the service book from LT and I am still not convinced that I didnt get an incomplete copy. I have been looking at the balance shaft (Ithink), on the engine I am working on I removed the generator cover, there I saw what I assume is the balance shaft. This doesnt seem to be geared to anything as it rotates freely without the crank moving. I checked in the LT manual and it isnt clear, as far as I can tell, if this should be the case. I checked the Japanese manual I downloaded and it looks like the shaft has a woodruff key but I cant be sure.
I can see as you say that I need to find a parts list so I know what I am looking at.
So far I have taken the head and barrel off and the big end and mains are good but the little end seems sloppy but no up and down play to speak of, its been rebored to +.5 and the barrel is fine so it will be unfortunate if I have to split the cases to investigate the other end of the balance shaft.

the balancer shaft should be connected to the crankshaft via a gear on the clutch side. if everything is in place then the woodruff key may be missing from the clutch side. you can access the shaft without removing the engine or spliting the case. there is a description on how to do this on the forum (just do a search).

Wecome to the wonderful world of crm's.Apart from my AR I have a pair of yam dt175mx's , one I am restoring & one I want to modify. If you still have the kdx front end would you know if it could be made to fit a dt ?

I still have the whole front end, as to will it fit I dont know. I will measure the pin height so you can see if it is similar, if that looks something like the same then I guess it could be made to fit if appropriate bearings are available to match the pin with the diameter of your headstock. There are people on this site who obviously have a great deal of engineering knowledge judging from the projects that have been written up on the technical forum, perhaps you can get an overview of what needs to be considered from them.
Where are you based? the forks wheel and brakes are all in seperate components in the garage if you want to offer them up.
The last thing I rebuilt was a powervalve 350, I swore I would never do it again after it cost me twice what it was worth but I guess you forget these lessons with time.
What about working the other way, fitting the DT engine in the KDX frame, if possible this would match the best bits of both bikes together IMHO. Judging by the number of KDX's on ebay needing complete engine rebuilds the 125 engine is particularly fragile.

you could take it to an engineering place and ask them to press the stemm out of one and fit the one from the other bike, my mate did a similar thing with his dr 350 to fit a wr 450 usd front end on

I'm just outside Leighton Buzzard. I measured the diameter of the pin it is 25.7 mm this obviously isnt the same diameter as the part pressed into the bottom yoke.
The KDX headstock is 185 mm high.
