does anyone know what the valve at the bottom of the 'piggy back' unit on the rear shocker is for? can it be recharged (maybe with nitrogen) by owners or is it just for a specialists use when overhauling a unit. any help might save me some money on a rebuild as mines been bottoming out a bit more rescently

I have noticed that mine too has been bottoming out more recently, but I think its because I have been eating too much and need a diet

As for the valve I cannot help but would find any info useful, I may be able to get mine charged up at work, we use nitrogen to charge our machine rams

I am taking mine into K-Tech (suspension specialists) later this week for an overhaul , as mine is also bottoming out a lot (now I am a fat b*****d) and I will ask the question for you. I do think it is for recharging/topping up the unit with gas.

I will have a look at my manual for my CRF450 as unlike the CRM this comes with a two inch thick manual and I remember seeing that a whole chapter is devoted to the rear shock, which looks exactly the same as my CRM rear shock.
I will read up about the valve you mention next time I am round my garage and let you know what I find out.

Thanks russell, CRF450 mmmm now those bikes sound so nice when being blasted around the quarries

They do sound very nice, they also make the CRM feel heavy and very underpowered, hence my MK 3 is now up for sale.
Lots of people say how easy it is to lift the front on a crm, you can not open up the CRF to quick in any gear on the road with out the front lifting, it is a great craic..

The rear shock has a gas filled reservoir, this is filled with nitrogen, on my CRF450 after overhaul this reservoir is filled with Nitrogen Gas 981 kPa (10.0 kgf/cm2, 142 psi)
This is followed by usual Honda warnings about use of wrong gas not recommended.

cheers for that russel ill have to ring round tyre dealers to see if any use pure nitrogen, if not i might try fresh air as thats about 78% nitrogen
