Strange faulty lights?
Strange faulty lights?
I cannot see anything in the FAQ.
This is strange,I have got my MK2 back together and it runs like new ,before I removed the engine all the lights worked fine.
I cannot remember - Can the bike start with the stand down?
My bike will only run with the stand up.
when I switch the lights on the stand light comes on,if I pull the brake the tail-light stop light comes on as it should but the headlight also ,in fact its the only time the headlight light up.
when I push the horn the oil light comes on but no horn,if I change the wires around on the horn more strange things happen with the lights
I have seen posts that state you can join the green wires on the stand switch to over-ride ,I am thinking about doing this as my next option.
I have checked all the connectors and they seem fine the earth seems ok,
a few electrical bits that have been fitted ,second hand kill switch ,new power valve servo
stuck!
Otherwise off to the bike shop and they will not provide a quote due to they dont know how long it will take to investegate.
Thanks

Re: Strange faulty lights?
Hi Capt, from what you have described, and the fact all the electrical parts you have changed, are just plug in connectors, I would say you have an earth problem. This would give all the symptoms you describe, as switching on different things on the bike, gives different earth back paths, which would give the weird symptoms you describe. I would definitely check out the earth, and would run a temp earth from the engine to the frame, to see if that improves it, certainly before you start cutting and shorting out parts of the loom. The bike should start with the stand down and bike in neutral, but should cut out if you put it into gear, with the stand down, again an earth fault would make this play up.
So check out and clean up all the earth points, as only a slight bit of corrosion, can cause a problem. (anyone remember Mk 3 & 4 Escort rear lights?)
Hope this helps
