2 Stroke oil sensor

I have the same problem as this previous thread :
the sensor that plugs into the lower part of the resv was leaking around the wires and dribbling down the bike
I'm sure it can be repaired / sealed with silicon, but does anyone know how the sensor is fitted into the top frame rail? It looks like a push fit, but I don't want to force it. Anyone got it out? Any idea of cost of replacement ?

hi millemg

Mine leaked some time ago. Silicoln will not do the job unless you can get it 100% clean - imposible. It is a push fit albeit very tight and you will more than likely damage it when trying to get it out - I did. I got a replacement one from LT off the shelf for around £25 - £30.00

In the long run its worth it as 2 stroke oil is expensive and it will only start to leak worse as time goes on.

Regards
Ian

Hi millemg

I agree with Ian T-B that its difficult to repair but its certainly worth a try. Mine leaked like hell so I removed it (drain oil first), degreased it fully and then whacked a load of silicon around it - leak fixed.

I replaced mine after various attempts to bodge it over 25 notes from David Silver spares. If i remember rightly it was a tight fit!!!

To get it out you need a short and narrow driver to dig into the plastic slightly to hook it out...be as careful as you can because the plastic is quite soft.
