Have just fired mine up after a re-build (didn't touch the engine) and every time I stick it in gear it stops, seems like the clutch is stuck to me, has anyone got a good method of freeing it without stripping the whole thing out, it has been stood for about 18 months.

mine does that if i leave it for a few weeks, i just put it in gear and rock it with the clutch pulled in, it might take a good few 'rocks' but it normally does the trick

Get the engine good and warm, then try again, the oil has congealed on the plates.

what oil are you running and how old is it?

push start the bike so its running and in gear. ride it around untill its up to temp and then while riding it, pull the clutch in and blip the throttle untill the clutch frees up.

failing that, it shouldnt take you more than 30 minutes to completely strip, clean and rebuild the clutch.
(an hour if your taking your time)

New oil will try riding it around and see if that works

Nah try this ,start bike and put front against house wall ,rev and let clutch out ,it goes bang and frees right off

I had the same problem on an old 1981 CR125 I bought. I started the bike and keep the revs up as you drop it into gear (because if clutch is seized "engaged" the bike will take off straight away). When your riding around, hold the clutch lever in. It took approx 20 minutes of riding around and then the clutch freed up. Never had a problem after that. As you ride and get on and off the throttle and the oil heats up, the oil should bleed in between the clutch plates and free them up. Try giving the throttle a few stabs while riding. But be prepared if it does free up as you will have the clutch lever pulled in, when it frees up all drive will stop.

Right maybe it wasn't the clutch, now as soon as I put it in gear it stalls, the side-stand switch has been removed and the clutch switch has an open circuit so what else would cause that to happen??

Either, the problem is as already diagnosed, or, with the engine warm but switched off, put the bike in gear, pull the clutch in and try pushing the bike, if the back wheel is dragging, it's still problem 1, if the wheel is turning, then it's the clutch switch.

have you tried push starting it yet?

regardless of whether the clutch it stuch, you should be able to push start it.
push it in neutral as fast as you can, jump on bike, then bounce down on seat and kick into first gear at the same time.
if it wont fire then this means its elec issue, if it fires up just ride it around untill the clutch is better.

and if you definitely want to check it the clutch is sticking, put the bike into gear, pull the clutch in and try to kick start it?
is it hard to kick over? similarly can you push the bike around with it in gear and with the clutch pulled in?


there are a million ways to diagnose and fix your problem, just try them all and report back on each one with what you did and what happened. or you will be on here for weeks trying to solve the problem.

and as I said in the original post, it only takes 30 minutes to completely rebuild the clutch, you have already spent that much time asking about the problem, so you could have just rebuilt the clutch in that time
