Thanks Fishtail I'm from north Nottinghamshire myself. Mansfield area living in Huthwaite at the mo. That's a nice bike you've got, I much prefer the look of that model to mine but as these bikes are almost as rare as hens teeth I took the first nice clean example I could find. Plus it came with receipts for a full engine rebuild from Leisure Trail UK only a month ago which swung the deal. The guy has only been and had it MOT'd since so I am left with the scary task of running her in. Can't wait till I dare pull the throttle more than 25% open

well I did a top end rebuild and I was of the thrash it at soonist possible moment school of thought! - but then again I was thinking I will be takin apart in a few months for full recon anyways!

so I did a 15 min at quarter - 15 min goin to half - then 15 min going up to 3/4.. followed by - F@ck it! the odd thrash!

fallenmikethebike - is of the run in school of thought - for longevity i think its worth it...

Longevity is what I'm after When I was about 15 my little brother saved up to get his scored head sorted on a dtr 125. He spent weeks saving and days rebuilding his beloved bike. He got it all back together, went out on it and BANG. Since then I've been very cautious with 2 smokers. Yeah Clowne ain't too far from me but i think I'm actually nearer your end of Notts than Clowne. Not 100% sure though

I do suffer from an elevated level of mechanical sympathy, except when I was racing.

Thrash the arse off it as soon as possible. Proven to give more power but the piston/bore doesn't last quite as long; but given that with proper care a piston/bore can last 20k then what's the problem .

Knackeredmk1... I bought it with the thought in my head I may need to do a top end rebuild pretty regularly. I never thought you would get 20k out a 2 stroke without doing it. If I wasn't such a pussy I would get it out shed now and thrash it to within an inch of its life. Unfortunately until I've done the 250 miles leisure trail recommended when I rang to confirm authenticity of the invoices, I haven't got the bottle. I too have a stupid amount of mechanical sympathy

Born in Matlock, brought up in Breaston (next to Long Eaton), also get down to Riddings (near Alfreton) on a regular basis - and the ocasional trail ride out in Derbyshire (I know the lanes like the back of my hand apart from the lanes closures in the past year) - been in the North East for 25 years.

Where would you recommend as a starting point for trail riding in Derbyshire mudfacetony? I've never been down but live so close. Id love to do it but don't know where the byways are. I've been trying to find them online but other than folk advertising trail days I can't find anything. I've looked on the glass site with no joy. Its like its a great bug secret. Derbyshire county council say they have an interactive map that shows them but I'm damned if I can find them.

Derbyshire CC are a bunch of C****** and it is their published wish to stop "off road riding" so you wont find much on their site.

Best bet is join the TRF. £40+ notes per year well worth spent. They will take you out but to lead yourself you need to learn fast and be able to read a map. The 1:50,000 landranger maps are what you need. The ORPA's (red dots) are highways and the routes with red crosses then a dot are byways. If you come across a route with a round sign with a red circl and a bike in the circle then you can't ride it.

If I go out in Derbyshire it is a Sat. Next time I have a bike down there and going out I will post a note on the rideouts section
