CRM250.COM - Modifications / Upgrades

There are plenty of aftermarket bits you can add onto your CRM250 to make it distinctive, Some are worthwhile and some are not. Below are some things you can do to make your CRM different.

Engine and Performance.

MK2 Airbox Baffle, take it out and sling it away. it is not needed and just seems to slow the bike down.

Exhaust System, now this may be the first point of call when adding bits to your bike. The majority of people tend to use DEP for the front and rear because they are cheap, look the part, sound great & require no jetting changes. Some use FMF but often these require jetting changes to get the best from it.

Racing Reeds is another quiock and cheap power gain. Priced at around £35 for 2 stage reeds make the bike feel smoother and more responsive especially when a full exhaust system is also fitted.

Spark Plugs, very often i have found the standard grade plug to be fine, but it wears out quick and fast road riding destroys it in only a few hundred miles. Better off with a NGK B9EGV for better cold starting and cleaner running.

Bodywork & Chassis

Renthal Bars are very popular, not only do they come in some cool colours but they are ver light and strong, So strong infact that you will often bend the bike before the bars once fitted.

Bark Busters are another handy addon, esp if like me you smash your hand on a tree on the way past, resulting with a trip to casualty. Priced at between £24 for cheapo ones and £45 for the aluminium strip ones (i have never broken a set of cheapo's yet the dearer ones seem to break) there are plenty to choose from

Alloy Frame Protectors, So you may have noticed that the paint is rubbing off the frame from your boots, well fitting a pair of these will stop that and they look nice too. Priced at around £70

Bash Plate is in my eyes essential. Quite expensive at around £70 but the protection they offer the lower part of the engine and frame is fantastic. How many times have you grounded out to hear that horrible sound of rock and metal ? Once fitted they seem to collect all kinds of crap between the plate and engine and often need cleaning out.

Grease Nipples are often overlooked, yet as our bikes came from the factory with not much in the way of grease in the swingarm and headstock then this mod makes much sense. Next time you replace your swingarm / headstock bearings or seals then take the time to drill a small hole and insert a grease nipple for future lubrication. Once this has been done you will never have to take it apart again. Not sure if anyone has done this for the wheels but if you have please let us know.

Speedo as the CRM speedo is in KPH the fitting of a MPH decal is a must for road use. I have found that fitting it on the inside of the glass and sticking it straight onto the speedo face you can actually read it at night and stops it peeling / falling off in the future.

Headlamp, Use your MK2 or 3 for night time riding ?? then get a AR headlight unit. You can actually see where your going with one of these.

Other Modifications

Below is a list that was sent to me by Paul Blackmore. He had a contact in Japan who raced CRM's and had plenty of experience with the bikes. Below is the content of the list.

He goes on to say he believes if you want to de-restrict your CRM and make it more powerful and respond better, Mugen jet kit is needed.

Boyesen Power Reeds No 633 and Pro Reeds No Pro-02 for CR250 88-98 are good for all CRM250 89-99. Boyesen RAD02SJ is a must if you race. It is designed for CRM250 89-96, to be used on CRM AR, you have to modify it and install one more spigot,it is for 2 stroke oil to go into the engine, or you can run on pre mix instead.

Goes without saying, check the parts fit before you spend loads of money!

Good luck
