Re: bottom yoke bearing
Hammer & punch

Re: bottom yoke bearing
Did mine last week, a feker of job without a vice, and nobody to help hold the yoke while you hit it
Eventually got the bottom race off using a hammer and cold chisel (not too sharp) between the ally of the bottom yoke and the base of the race to get it started, then as Knackered said, a hammer and punch to finish the job. Just take your time and work around the stem, gradually, if that makes sense

Re: bottom yoke bearing
do as mike says, use a dremel or similar. it's the best way i know of. and if you do it right you can keep the old race to use as a drift ( with suitable tube) to drive the new bearing home.

Re: bottom yoke bearing
Now that the bearing is broken away, try getting a small sharp cold chisel and with the yoke on a hard surface and the center tube facing up ( as on the bike) strike a cut into the top of the bearing ring, and it should break in two as it is so hard it's brittle, if you have a dremmel try grinding a starter cut first.

Re: bottom yoke bearing
Nabz..dont try to part the stem from the bottom yoke!! That lot was assembled by Mr Hondas finest, with the idea that it didnt come apart again!
Sorry mate, but it MUST be easier to drift whats left of the bearing up the stem, in the fashion advised by the other replies.

Re: bottom yoke bearing
Well for the case in question the bit your left trying to drift off is the inner portion of the race.NaBz wrote:will do tommorow to tired now

The bit that's already fallen /been hammered off is the outer race.
The bit that was in between the rollers are sometimes round and sometimes cylindrical .
ball bearings round.
cup bearings cylindrical
taper bearings angled race. These are the adjustable type used in most car hubs and steering heads .

Re: bottom yoke bearing
nick if you still struggle to shift the race, try an angle grinder and gently remove material from the inner race, being very carefull not to go through the race and damage the stem.i've done this twice now on very problematic ones and both times the heat generated by the grinding combined with the removal of material loosens the inner race.
this is a last resort and taking your time is vital so damage to the stem isn't caused
