Reg/rec testing
How do i test the regulator on my AR?
Does anyone know any measurements please?

Re: Reg/rec testing
Hi Frostoff,
They can not be tested conclusivley but some tests are possible. Have a look in the power valve problem thread and post your results back here. The result numbers are not set in stone as they can vary between regulators but you should be able to tell if something is severely wrong. What makes you think the Reg/rec is faulty?

Re: Reg/rec testing
I am trying to Eliminate components, to find out why i have not got a spark.
Firstly i was thinking it was the generator, Which on inspection had one broken wire. but after speaking to LT(who said they had never had one go or replaced one) and checking the resistances of the pick-up coils (after a chat with westcountry windings) Who said they should be 250&150+ ohms, mine both read over 350. So I am struggling to find a reason.
I then took the coil up to the local bike shop who tested the coil on an old macine he had and it appears that it might be the cause.
Another thing i found out after a chat with LT is that you cannot just unplug the kill switch to by-pass it, you have to loop it. So even that ain't so simple as which wires do you connect?

Re: Reg/rec testing
I would say the kill switch is a good place to start.
I havent looked, but logic would tell me there are 2 wires leading in to the kill switch
if there is cover over the wires carefully make a small splice so you can see the wires
underneath. If there is two - to loop the connection take a a peice of wire with
a needle soldered to each end and push one into each of the two wires
so it makes contact with the wire behind the casing. Try just giving the kill
switch a clean first..To be honest, it would probably be easier to just stick a couple of bare needles into each of the
wires and set your multi meter to continuity and touch each of the needles and listen for the beep.

Re: Reg/rec testing
oh, you might wanna wrap some gaffer tape or something around the middle of the needle or something
to give you a bit of grip to push it in.

Re: Reg/rec testing
Your local honda dealer should have the equipment to test it, I took mine to my local dealer and they tested and didn't charge me anything!
AR's rock!!!
TwinAir filter, Braided Brake Hoses, Swingarm/Shock bearings done!, Rear Shock overhauled and customised by G-Force, 14-44 Gearing, Exhaust decoked (fun with Caustic Soda!), DEP silencer.

Re: Reg/rec testing
to bypass the kill switch, disconnect the connector and short the 2 wires. same system for bypassing the ignition switch. Jon

Re: Reg/rec testing
The trouble is there are three wires and it is also coupled to the front brake switch somehow.
Re: Reg/rec testing

Red conector is for front brake switch, green is earth black/white is feed (short this to earth)
Re: Reg/rec testing
ok forget most of what i said. had to remove my clocks yesterday as they were only showing 25mph max. while they were off i looked at the wiring for the kill switch and it is different as stated before. the brake wires on the crm are black and green/yellow, the kill switch is black and Black/white. These are the wires that need to be shorted.
