john they usually smoke more when starting from cold,if it runs clean when warm i'd say you dont have a prob

Thanks for replies. This is my fourth CRM, and it smokes a lot more than any of the others, on start up you could lose an elephant in it for the first 30 seconds or so !!!!!!!
I removed the oil pipe feed to the carb and marked the 2 stroke level, to see if oil was seaping through the pump and into the barrel, this was OK after one day, but I will continue to monitor.
I have also removed the exhaust, the expansion pipe was dry at the barrel end and oily at the other, the silencer was also oily. I hung these up to see if they had excess oil in, but nother came out over night.
With this off I had a look and feel ( ooh eer ) of the piston and rings, they looked ok but I could move the piston a small amount from back to front. I realise that this is the normal way the barrel wears, but on a good piston to barrel fit would this movement be felt ??????

Have you tried turning the petrol off when the bikes parked up , if the inlet valve is letting by slightly this excess fuel could find its way into the crank cases, this could in turn give rise to the pea souper on starting up, it may have no effect but its a nill cost check to run .

The petrol tap is off, and I checked it sealed all OK, good idea though ! Running on Castrol I think.

Ok, Done the plug test today, All OK plug a nice brown colour. Checked the oil pump setting, thats also correct to the manual. On start up, clouds of smoke, but when warm runs fine with minimal smoke. Unfortunatly found a slight weep from the petrol tank, that explains the petrol oil mix that was dripping from the exhaust, I'll have to fix this next .

I think when the bike is left for a week, the oil thats collected in the silencer is dripping back down into the front pipe, on start up this is then causing excessive smoke.

Thinking of taking off the front pipe for some investigation work, Any ideas ??????????????????????????????????????



Replace the oil pump with a new one, this has transformed the bike, no clouds of smoke on start up and running really clean. Thanks for all the tips

£116 from LT, but money well spent. No more clouds of smoke, no more oil all over the back end, no more having to put working clothes on to ride it !!
