Mk 2 Steering head bearings - tech details
Ok folks, having just replaced mine, heres what I ended up finding:
The Mk 2 has the same top and bottom bearing
Its type/series number is 32005X
Dimensions 25 x 47 x 15 25mm is the diameter of the hole in the middle.
47mm is the max diameter of the outer race (the bit thats drifted into the headstock) and 15mm is the thickness of the bearing.
I found the easiest and cheapest way was to get an All Balls kit from Off Road Only which included 2 bearings and 2 seals (they always get chewed up when drifting the old bearings off). This set came to about £19 for the lot plus Pand P.
The All Balls kit has the following umbers on it, one of which must be the part number!
17-1255.AB SSH902R 22-1021
Im fairly sure the 17-1255.AB is the part number.
This kit fits lots of Honda trikes, trail bikes, crossers and enduro bikes from late 70's to present day, including just about all the XL and XR series as far as the list says.
The bearings are made by KML, which are a Chinese company by the looks of the website, but have an international operation and look quite professional from the website..time will tell!
Right..time to re-house the little dears...
Regards KK

TECH' UPDATE!!!!!!!! After a bit of checking and double checking I purchased a head set from just off road ( great service arrived next morning ) and can confirm part number 17-1255.AB is correct at £23.71 inc p+p . BUT!!!!!!!! the size of the bearing is 26mm ID NOT 25mm as stated in the first post 47 OD is correct as is the thickness of 15mm, I thought I would post this incase anyone was planning on buying from a bearing company, however 26mm is a very unusual ID and I suspect Allballs and Honda machine them!
This also makes the Allballs bearing ref differant it should be 99-3520 ( This is allballs bearing size ref no found taped to the bearings )
EXRTA INFO........ Honda headset part no 91015-425-832 x2 =£48.48 inc vat
leisure trail £37.20 brand unknown

Hi petrol,
sorry to disagree with you mate, my MK 2 DEFINITELY has 25mm I/D for the bearings. You got a Mk2?
have you fitted them yet? 25mm is the ID of the inner bearing..the bit with the rollers on it. Thats the diameter of the steering stem that has the thread on it.
Has your CRM been changed maybe?
Regards KK

Re: Mk 2 Steering head bearings - tech details
Very strange indeed
when the all balls kit arrived I looked at the numbers on the bearings and they are marked 26mm,(32005 xr / 26) so I thought c@*p these aren't right, so I checked the number on the sticker they put on the bearing with the allballs web site and it also says 26mm, so now I'm ready to send them back and lose 15% restocking charge
but before I do that I get out the digital vernier and measure the stem, and great joy it's 26mm, so just to be double sure I measure the old Honda bearing ID and it too is 26mm
My bike is a very original Mk2 and the kit has the number you listed and yes it's fitted and fine.
I have not fitted the top bearing yet so will try to post a picture later, but at least we agree this kit fits
