Greetings from Vietnam

Post by f0xxee »

hey all,

Great site and even better forum....

Greetings from Vietnam! I have lived here (Vung Tau, google it) for a year after leaving Singapore. where I owned a Ducati Paul Smart LE which I punted all over Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand.... I have just bought my 1993 CRM 250 on the basis that Vietnam is no place for a Ducati given the complete lack of road sense and mechanical wisdom available.

The CRM came from Cambodia, where it has had a rough life apparently dodging landmines successfully and water-buffalo less so... its a bit shagged out, but I am planning on doing it RTF up...

She has many problems: a non-functioning power valve, CDI and regulator that are dodgy and all sorts of other issues. But the good thing is, this website and a few good suppliers (Leisuretrail and Wemoto in the UK, onoffroad.com in the US) have been a great help. Parts are on the way!

So take a look at her now, dunger that she is....

Lets see if I can get this old girl back to the baby she once was. if you want to see her progress I will post some photos on my website: www.foxxee.com

PS. In a land of scooters, the CRM is king!

Cheers,
Foxy

Howdy all and thanks for the warm wishes and offers of assistance in photographic endeavors.... very kind of y'all.

The CRM project is prgressing slowly, inspite of Vietnamese Customs doing everything they can to be obstructive. (Protecting the local Motorbike industry is what they call it, extorting me for 50% of the value of the parts is what I call it.)

The bike is in many bits and I took about 120 photos just in case my drinking interferes with synaptic responses when it comes time to reassemble it all.

All plastic, tanks and forks have gone to be painted: Rick royal metalic blue if you were wondering, to constrast the Excel gold rims coming from the US.

I got bored (GF is back in thailand reassmbling a water buffalo) so I pulled the swing arm off and gave it a full polish.... wanker that I am. Looks grouse, whether i can aply 2 pack clear properly to keep it that way will be determined at a later stage.

TOOLS: This will make you cry.

1/2 drive socket set from germany, good quality: 37 US dollars. 3/8 and 1/4 sets same same. Compressor: 175 USD. SO CHEAP! Going nuts buying all the tools I wanted when I was young and trying to fix bikes with a shifting spanner that the worm screw fell out of all the time....

Will let you know how I go... OH! and if someone can show me how to upload photos on this site, I'll post a few.

Cheers,
