mk 1 crm oil pump

Post by dnf daly » 11 Aug 2008, 20:34

how can you check the oil pump is working correctly throughout the rev range,i have undone pipe on exit side on tickover and it does pump--has it splines gears behind the pump to run it?
when riding could they slip/spin and stop pump working,as bike will run on tickover but has siezed twice within a mile when riding welding piston rings to piston on the exhaust side, coolant and crank alignment are fine,so appears to be extreme oil stavation ?
any thoughts
thanks in advance

By all means take the clutch cover off and you will find the oil pump drive system underneath. However it is far more likely since the engine will run on tick over that you have an intake problem which is causing your bike to run lean or a severe exhaust blow. Otherwise more serious problem...............

Have you changed any parts recently? Take the carb apart and give a really good clean anyway. What jet sizes are in there? Check for any air leaks on the intake side.

from the crank up and two pistons both siezed within a mile, welded rings to piston
carb spotless
no leaks
checking jet size tomorrow
do you know what it should be?
cheers

Pilot - 45, Main - 132.

But does depend on what 'extras' you have and what parts you have taken off.

I suppose there is no colour development on the plug as too short runs?

extras?? parts taken off?? like what?

was short run--plug looked okish litish brown --but as you say short run-slight premix in tank-plus build up oil and slight bit in bore to start up so as you rightly say hard to tell

Extras - exhausts, reeds, air filter.............

What is the carb you have (might have been changed?)

How much oil in fuel? Premix will lean jetting.....

Light brown in that time suggets lean running? Might try replacing jets anyway as pilot is particularly prone to slight blockage.
