wierd problem??

Post by josh mk 2 crm »

hello every 1

any 1 had a problem where your bike rev's a little when hot and then backfires??
(sometime's cuts out as well)

the oil pump is set a couple of degrees (2 mm) rich as i cant seem to get the adjustment to back off anymore?? (might need a new cable)

would the oil pump adjustment cause the problems mentioned above???

any other ideas ???

many thanks

Hi,
Could be a number of things matey, just sounds like a missfire, maybe due a spark plug? espsecaially if its ruinning abit rich? sure someone will point you in the right direction if they have experianced the same.
Thanks

:) As Jim says, pop a new plug in, the mixture , if on standard jetting ,is running ,very, slightly lean, due to the extra oil in the mixture, check the colour of the current plug, but, the backfiring ,could hint at a timing issue, which could be a problem as the timing is fixed on all CRMs at the manufacturing stage :(

hello again!

the problem has changed a little bit. . .

i managed to get my bike running well enough for the mot yesterday and taxed it this morning! :)

i took the bike out for a good ride and it was sweet, cleared all the exess oil out of the exhaust, all seemed to be going fine, when 12 miles out of plymouth the bike coughed and splutterd and cut out!

i checked the petrol and it was fine! so i tried to bump it and nothing,
then i realised that i now have no neutral light???

i kicked the bike over a million times and the neutral light is very dim and sometimes doesnt light up at all!

So my bike is now in a barn on dartmoor, a nice farmer let me leave it there over night!

and offerd me a ride home!

going to pic the bike up tomoz and hope i can sort the problem out what ever it is!!

any ideas what the problem might be??

many thanks

josh

Blocked main jet :?: . Take the carb apart and clean and fit an inline fuel filter.

:? My Money would be on a dodgy Magneto, [ no/ little neutral light, what about main lights?]
Once you have the beast back home, whip out the plug, pop her into first gear, and push it around the back yard, with the ignition turned on,this should be enough motive power to arc up the lights, but not neutral of course.
West Country Windings, now in Herts can rewind your mag, if after testing it is found to be faulty.

You need to check if there,s a low tension current reaching the coil.
Buy one of them cheap multi testers.

right

ive just disconnected the coil and checked the voltage at the termminals using a volt metre, and the voltage was next to nothing
(0.30 volt)

what kind of voltage should i be getting???

everytime i kicked the bike the voltage raised up and stored a little bit and then slowly trickled down, i managed to get it up to 1 volt (but i must have looked a right plank, kicking the bike loads of times for a bout 2mins constantly)

does that sound like the stator ??
it there anywhere eles i should check with the volt metre??

many thanks

:( unfortunatly, we have not heard from our electric guru, KK for a while, but a chap on here has a bro, whose ace with the terminal sticks, and given some time, may be able to help you.
IMO, that 0.03v reading sounds pitifully weak, the exact cause of that may be many fold, but it's worth taking the cover of the magneto, and testing the pick ups, for voltage, and the out put from the 3 phase wires to the reg/rec, it is one of those, suck it and see jobs, to those of us not proficient in the Black Art of Auto Electrics.

Hi Josh
Have you checked the kill switch and sidestand switch, as these a wired into the circuit, prior to the coil, so if one of these is playing up you will get a low reading at the coil.
As the bike was running ok previously I would suspect the kill switch or sidestand switch, I would also check all the connectors on the bike are secure and clean, and where the loom earth bolts to the frame is secure and clean as well. Any bad or loose connections could cause the symptoms you describe.
Hope this helps and you get it sorted.
pmac.

Hi, if you need to get your stator rewound, try west country windings. You'll have to look them up. They're good, and a hell of a lot cheaper than a new item. Most of the motorcycle repair shops send they're stuff there.
