Hole In Engine

Post by howe1601 » 20 Nov 2009, 11:20

Well i gave the bike a real good thrashing last weekend and suddenly all came to a sudden stop. When i looked at the front of the engine there is a hole the size of a 50p piece where the two sides of the engine meet at the bottom. Dont know if it blew from the inside or something flew up and smashed it. Has anyone had this happpen and i presume it will be a new engine casing. Can you buy just the casing and has anyone out there got one.

I feel this could be expensive

Very likely that something came up and smashed it. Have you got a bashplate :?:

Cases can be welded but with such a large hole you would need the missing piece/s. You might get away with welding on one side though depending on hole position :?: .

You will have to look at the bearings inside. Possibly you have siezed/bent the crank; or knocked something inside to jam gears :o . Depends on where hole is. Have you got a photo :?: .

Take the engine out and split it before you rush off to buy anything.

What Mk have you got :?: .

HI
I don't know what part of the country you are in,but a motorcycle breakers in Bradford Yorkshire has both sides of crankcases and crankshaft
still built-up, the gearbox is shattered. He wants £100 telephone number 01274 833907 (triple X. breakers) (ask for Paul)

Cheers

Thanks guys, todays task is to get the engine out and asess the damage. Some very helpfull comments.

On the topic of a bash plate, yes i have one but recently did an oil change and didnt get round to putting it back on... Could have been a costly mistake. Oh well you live and learn. I was giving it some in a stubble field and think the front wheel kicked up a piece of flint.
