fitting handle bar grips?

Post by xander77 »

Whats the best way to get new handle bar grips on? is there anything you can ease them on with that will evaporate away? on the clutch side the grip has a collar at the swithchgear end? is this for a small tie wrap?

Thanks
Jack

Fill them with hot water and empty. Then put straight on.

Most solvents will evaporate away, and, you also get some chemical reaction with the rubber that acts as a glueing agent.
It is better to get some locking wire and use that as opposed to a zip tie.
If you look at the grip, there is usually at least 3 pre-incorporated places to lock wire your grips on, and, I personally can't emphasise enough the importance of doing this.
It has been my misfortune to see several very nasty accidents from grips, slipping off the bars at inopportune moments and riding with a moving grip is soooo, tedious.

You could try shutting the garage door, that would keep the draught out, you might not need to use it then
;) Yes, I have heard of people using the spray for that, and I checked the Missuses can out, but it only guaranteed it for fly away hair, not grips.
Does work though :D .

:D :D :D

'removal is reversal of installation' :D :D :D

well if you used heat to get them on then I would try heat to get them off - maybe a hairdryer (or heat gun if your garage is so equipped...)

The most successful way I have found is a large enough, open ended spanner behind the "doughnut" open end section, and plonker with a hammer.

I know it sounds really dodgy but I use a bit of petrol and it works a treat!
