how do i restrict my crm
how do i restrict my crm
hi i have bought a crm and im only 17 and alowed to ride 33bhp how do i get it restricted to 33bhp
Re: how do i restrict my crm
just my opinion and it is illegal but its what I did back when I was on the old restricted licence.
I didnt bother restricting it!
been pulled over many times for a variety of non-existant "reasons" and never been asked about it.
If they were to check the power my guess is they'd use a dyno and the CRM as standard doesn't make more than 33bhp at the wheel as far as I know. this would probably satisfy the majority of law enforcement types even though the law states 33bhp at the crank not the wheel. My insurance company never asked about it either. just my opinion and I know it was highly irresponsible of me to have an extra 7bhp......
Failing that, as far as I'm aware f1 international is the company that makes restrictor kits but there isn't one for the Crm. I guess youd have to make some sort of washer for going between the carb/inlet if you're going to restrict it. that's what the restrictor kit was on my other bike.
Lastly I think someone else was looking to do this a while back. Might be worth checking the search function and seeing what they did.

Re: how do i restrict my crm
ok thanks iv been told westgate road in newcastle a bike shop there dus it for 160 pond or another shop prints u out a certifiicate but donsent restrict the bike for 80 pound so im thinking about just geting the certificate to say it has been restricted but realy it hasnt
Re: how do i restrict my crm
fair enough! All the restrictor kit is is a washer that restricts the flow from the carb but they do cost £150ish for the official kit from f1 international (That's what it cost for my R6). Quite expensive for 4 washers and a certificate. so long as you've got some certificate to show the plod should the worst happen, I think you'll be OK. Dont know what the police are like with bikes around your area but I've been pulled over for "leaning too far on a roundabout", "too much mud on the bike" (number plate/lights were fine) and having numbers on the bikes number board. If they can pull me over for that and still not have a problem with it being unrestricted I think you'll be OK!
As I said though it will still technically be too powerful so dont blame me if you do get in trouble...

Even restricted to 33BHP, the CRM is still illegal to ride on a restricted licence because of the power to weight ratio. It needs restricting to considerably less then 33bhp to be legal so if you get a document saying it is 33bhp, that will actually be proof that it is illegal :)

but still if you had got caught by a knowledgeable policeman then it wouldn't be all 'smileys' would it...delvey91 wrote:Im 18 and had a ZX6R all this summer, pulled multiple times and nothing ever said

not worth the risk in my opinion especially when you've only had your license a year or two and don't need higher insurance premiums than your already paying.
AR's rock!!!

So you're now illegally riding a CRM instead then - and posting the evidence on YouTube too. Hmmm.

Without putting another hurdle in the way, if you have an accident and the insurance company smell a rat, it could invalidate your insurance. I don't think plod is your real problem as some are a bit dense - I got stopped once and he was looking for illegal tyres, the problem is he did not know what constituted legal. But, there are some clever buggers in uniform.

Re: how do i restrict my crm
Isn't the restricter situated in the airbox and is just a plastic plate which slides in? The workshop manual seems to suggest this.

Re: how do i restrict my crm
The plate that slides into the air box is a baffle that makes the air travel further within the intake system to add a little low end torque and reduce intake noise. Nearly everyone throws it away as it makes very little increase in low end but restricts the top end performance.
