AR owner new to site!
Hello chaps,
I'm Shaun from Derbyshire, and have owned a 1997 CRM AR coming up to two years now. The bike was pristine when I bought it, and had done hardly any work.... mainly a road and field bike. I bought it from a friend who had it around 7 years and I've alwyas loved the bike, it just came up for sale at the right time. I was recommended this site from a friend who has two CRM's.
Anyway, my lovely bike has done some hard work now.... and you can tell!! Bear in mind I had very little off road experience when I bought it, and for the past almost 2 years have been doing some hard green laning (some with the TRF), 4x4 track riding, motorcross track, enduroland and last summer my first enduro event.... Dawn to Dusk!!
A few mates suggested buying something newer, more modern and lighter.... however I do love the bike. Although it's old and relatively heavy, I do love it and it's perfect for what I need. I have had problems with the power valve (have already checked your FAQ, but I'm putting up with it for now). I've decided in a year to strip it right down and have a complete rebuild and restore her, already started collecting parts from the expensive Leisure Trail. So, if anyone has any suggestions for parts, mods etc in the mean time they would be very much appreciated. I have several dilemmas, but won't mention any for now as I'm not stripping it for a year or so.
Will try and get some pics up if I can, haven't used a forum for years, I did have a photobucket account before, but not sure now, perhaps someone could remind me....
All the best,
Shaun.

Re: AR owner new to site!
OK, that ddin't work.
Re: AR owner new to site!
Welcome to the site mate!
Regarding the PV problem - I would advise that you look into that sooner rather later because if it is just the actual exhaust valve sticking or the valve servomotor then continuing to ride with it could end up with the CDI (ECU) needing replaced at about £350 -£450 depending on where you get one from. Search around on here there is a ton of info on it.
Probably the problem with the pictures is that you ended up with two lots of image tags, one set gets automatically added when you copy from photobucket and then you added another set when you pasted into the post.
Glad you enjoy getting your AR muddy (I like the user name!!!)
Welcome again!
Regards

Re: AR owner new to site!
Hi Shaun,
Welcome from another newbie AR owner! I'm based in Nottingham so not too far from you. My "off-roading" experience is limited to some blasts on snow but am hoping to put that to rights before too long. Mine seems mechanically OK (inc exhaust valve) but I'm still planning a full strip down in a year or so as I hate seeing rusty frames!

Re: AR owner new to site!
Thanks guys, yeah I'm going to have the frame powder coated or stove enameled, engine rebuild, forks done etc etc.
Yeah Notts isn't too far away, we usually do a bit up North Derbyshire/South Yorkshire... some absolutely cracking lanes... but also local farms when and where we can. Other than that the odd day on practice tracks, odd enduro, but we're members of the East Mids TRF.... so go out with them boys whenever we can.
Shaun.

Hi Shaun,
Nice bike, i ve got an AR 97 but the red /black/white one, you would think you have died and gone to heaven if you can get in and enter and compete in the ryedale rally , its a brilliant two day ride loads of mileage, and a real good laugh, just a few timed sections , the rest just open roads, wood, moorland, woods allsorts, check it out and ask any questions , there seem to be four of five of us ( CRM's ) enter, so get it rebuilt and have a hell of a weekend.
Any questions do ask, cheers Rob Smith
