front forks

Post by briangoo » 18 Jul 2010, 04:01

hi all iv'e looked in faqs but i can't see any help:
i fell off my mk2 at more or less walking pace a while back & i thought i bent the handlebars. so i got some new 1's but both looked straight enough. but its still the same slightly bent so i'm wondering is it poss that the top fork brace could either be bent or may need loosened off & straightened back up if at all possible. but how on earth something that's so strong looking could have moved is weird ???

Try, with the front end slightly raise, loosening the main steering nut, and, all other fork and axle clamps, then give the bars a vigorous waggle from side to side.
Make sure the forks have not dropped in the process, then do all bolts up again.
I always like to spin the front wheel and jam the brake on and holding it on before tightening the axle, this I find helps centralise the brake pads.
