Electrical Malfunction
Re: Electrical Malfunction
Hi there Guys,
problem has been correctly diagnosed. the woodruff key on the out put shaft of the crankshaft is worn completely down. this is the result of the retaining nut coming slightly undone, and the magneto traveling just enough (roughly 3mm) for it to slip. once it slipped, it screwed the key up totally. That's why I had spark under no compression, because the crankshaft and magneto turned together as one unit, however, under compression, when you kicked the bike over, the crankshaft would turn, but the magneto would just stand still. ordered two new woodruff keys from the local Honda Dealer @ 3 quid each, popped one in and problem solved. Oh by the way, if this ever happens to anyone one, just be sure to check the grooves on the output side of the crankshaft as well as the magmeto for excesive wear. What I did was simply take a needle file and file the edges flat again on both the mag and crank to ensure the Key would securely lock and prevent further slippage.
Thanks for the ideas and support, I really appreciate it.
