Front fork leg collapse

I recently removed the front spinle from my mk3 crm it was hard to get out an wen it was half way the bottom of the fork fell out an sprayed oil every were how difficult is a full fork strip down on these forks I have stripped normal style forks before but I am still un sure on why this has happend.

There could be a number of things that happened and I'm not sure I know what you mean by 'the bottom of the fork fell out'. Could you post some photos

Particularly of the thread on the bolt that goes through the very bottom of the fork leg pointing upwards through the fork and the piece that this screws into.

It looks like you missed a dangerous situation if this had happened when out riding though

, Thinking about it though, I don't think the fork could have come completely detached, until the axle is removed, yes?
Fork rebuild, Slider put a point by point rebuild/service post on here, check the search area.
You will need to make a simple seal driver from some plastic drainage pipe.

Not quite sure what is meant but possibly the only thing holding the bottom of the 'broken' fork leg on was the spindle that was fixed in the other fork leg

Fork rebuild is in the forks etc post in 'FAQ- Check here first'.

rite the bottom of the fork leg hasnt come out totally its just dropped down a long way it seems like it has become detached from the damper it is very odd as the other leg is fine. I cant see any reason why this has happend as every thing on the leg is tight.

IMO,the internal damper rod has un-threaded itself from the cap, others?

Well am strippin it down next week hope fully so al see what I find what is the first step in stripping this type of fork down.

Theres a you tube vid wi steo by step instructions for usd forks, theres a link on here for it, or just have a look on you tube, theres 2 parts to it an its virtually the same as your forks. The most important thing is to put the new seals on carefully, else you'll end up havin to buy some more like i did! Ha. Its a very simple job, just take ya time an do everythin methodically, keep everythin really clean an you'll be reet.

Old fork oil really stinks so dont try it wi a hangover...

I would agree with this. I'm not so familiar with USD forks and when I rebuilt my legs just recently I initially forgot to bolt up the damper rod to the top cap on one side. End result was an indeterminate quantity of my carefully added fork oil shot all over my leg when the fork leg bottom dropped rather further than Honda intended. I won't make that mistake again :-) Fingers crossed there is no damage to your threads!
