Plug Types

Post by wobblyWheel » 10 Oct 2010, 22:24

Hi to All

Have had my AR for a couple of weeks now and love it to bits. It’s got mugen all over and I purchased with Mugen CDI, and some other mugen bits supposedly installed. I have trouble starting, but if I change plug it seems to start OK. I have 2 different plugs that drastically affect the riding. I note that when the plug is removed the spark seems very weak. When running the front indicators have a glow about them?

A BR8ES gives incredible performance if pushed with high revs. However low speed running often splutters or misfires.. If I put the BR8EG its great on low speed but has lost that zing on the high revs.

My question is, are there other plug types to try??.

Will try and get some pictures soon on photobucket.

Any advice welcome.

Regards

Glyn

BR8ES is usually be fine. The BR8EG should be less likely to foul but some people report the exact opposite to be true.

what 2 stroke oil are you using ? fully synthetic often leads to plug fouling issues

Not sure what oil is in it at the moment. I will make sure I use semi - synthetic though.

I used the bike to work this morning with a BR8ES and it was spluttering and kicking and fine when revved and pushed hard. Just thinking the problem may well be somewhere else? Carb or possibly a faulty CDI

sounds like it could have a weak charge to the plug, what happens if you run it with the lights and winkers and brake light on,

dose it get worse?

ride along with it all off and feel what it is doing then put them all on,

Your plug cap could be on the way out or there could be some difficulty with the connection to the cap. Make sure it is screwed up tight to the cable and te wires to the ignition coil are making a good conection.

What colour is your plug when you have run it for a while :?:

The plug is a normal grey/whitish, I will do as suggested and check the plug cap. Not sure I can turn the main lights off as suggested as they seem to be on perminant. As stated it runs fine when the revs pick up. With the BR8Eg it runs fine low down. It ticks over and revs fine at stand still. when I kick it over the spark does seem weak though...!!!

I will have a fettle this weekend and report back

Many thanks to all for advice..... Love the bike its got real ZING......

Have you tried going for a higher heat range as it's 'tuned' up..... maybe a BR9? Or an Iridium plug?

Grey/whitish is not normal for a 2 stroke. Should be light/dark brown. You maybe running too lean or need a '9' plug as suggested.

Thanks Lads......

I'll get a BR9? and I will see what is available and try them out.

What is the difference between Br8eg and BR6es. I take it its some sort of heat range?

have you tried a B8EGV that is the third type of plug listed that i know can be used in the crm's, i tried using a B8EG and wouldnt recomend it as my bike wouldnt run properly but if youve got upgraded jets in the carb it would be more ideal than the standard BR8ES just remember thet the other 2 plugs are classed as racing plugs so would work better at higher revs on a hotter engine
