Merry Xmas

Post by blue.raccoon »

Hello to all and Merry Christmas and all that.

Bought a bit of a basket case Mk3 a few weeks back and have been trying to assemble all the parts to put it back together, most of which are there.

However, I'm missing the neutral switch/gear position sensor (I think it is the same part). Have had a scout about on Ebay but not much there. I have got a spare Mk2 engine and suppose I could use the casing and sensor off of that (may have to modify the loom a bit) but if anyone has a spare sensor they are willingto part with, I'd love to hear from them???

Cheers

merry xmas mate, if you end up utilising the sensor off the mk2 engine what will you do with the rest of it? i would be quite interested if the price was right in purchasing the engine off you as i have a mk2 and wish to basically purchase as many mk2 parts as poss enough shall we say to basically have a full bike as spares

The sensor on the Mk3 is much bigger than on the Mk2. It won't fit  .

If you want a neutral indicator you will have to swap LHS crank case. I think this is OK but there is a small bearing mounted in the Mk2 that is not in the Mk3 on the end of one of the shafts. Otherwise I believe the cases are the same.

OK Knackered - thanks for the help. Have checked with LT and a new one is £50 plus delivery. Might just bite the bullet as it seems as though I may need to faff about with using the Mk2 gear selector drum as well (having read some other posts) and I feel like I've got enough of a challenge for an office boy just trying to get the thing back together as it is!

Cheers

Sorry, one more question. Does anyone know if it is possible to dispense with this sensor and the neutral light or whether in fact it is required for the CDI to work correctly?

I don't know if it does effect the cdi or not but I suspect not.
Mine has been disconnected for some time and the bike runs well. That is not to say that it does not play some part, just that the bike runs fine without it.

Regards
Eddie
