Newbie - advice required

Post by dangerous »

Hi Guys

I've just made a return to bikes having stopped car racing this season due to cost and work...

I just bought (4 months) and got rid of my 4 stroke supermo an older 600 - wheelie d easy, just lazy on delivery and gripped more than kicked the back end out on the dirt. Tight corners - it wouldn't kick the back end round quickly, so it wanted to go straight on and being heavy was hard work..

Having had a Kx250 in the past it just did not cut the mustard in certain ways. I know a road going tool is not the same thing as compromise for reliability but...

The dilemma is I could do with something light and poky like a WR450 but as I do some road miles too - It seems any modern four stroke is going to cost a fortune to keep on top of and is much more hassle to work on than a two stroke - It's a con by the manufactures... a 400 comp bike is similar to a 250 two stroke power to weight - but it's a 400cc and costs a fortune to keep running in 3 years on off road it will probably cost more than a new bike in running costs - the 4 strokes are so highly strung now - bring back two strokes.

I had a YPVS350 engine with pipes, jets and air filters in a different chassis, wheels, forks etc.. (engine had a minor rebuild prior) down geared for bottom end, pre mixed - Thrashed it mercylessly for over a year and it was still running sweet - with no work on the motor required. Would lift in first 3 gears...

Older 4 strokes like the xr400 - are great but are just a bit dull although might have to compromise.

So here we are looking at crm250's? I like the look of the new AR model
