Just bought a MK2 and...........(powervalve, servicing etc,)

Post by pearse15 » 24 Dec 2004, 13:17

Just bought my first CRM couple of days ago. Just been out to test it and it pulls off the mark great, but no powervalve. Looking back through other posts it could be a number of things. Because i don't know the history of the bike where should I start in servicing so i know it's pukka.

Gonna carb strip down
Try and luck at powervalve
Air filter
Spark plug
Fuel filter

Anything else that i'm missing, looked like there was a bit of a coolent leak coming from round the manifold somewhere, can't see where it's dripping from. Gonna have a proper look on Boxing day.

Gonna need chain and sprockets, gonna go for a 13f 45r as i'll mainly be offroading, sound bout right?

Got the bike at a good price so kinda expect to spend a little. Hoping I don't need CDI etc for the powervalve, the bike aint been used for 4months so hoping it might be down to that.

This is my first topic. So hello people. I'm from Lincoln England if anyone lives close for a ride

regards, adam

check that the power valve cable/s have not broken, when at stanstill rev the bike with the servo motor cover off (so you can see the cable pulley) if working the pulley should move when revved high enough, could try this with cables removed, will show if power valve is stuck
i also have a new rear 45 tooth renthal sprocket for sale if your interested

are you sure its your powervalve!
i only say that, as you said it takes off ok, mine sticks sometimes when i first set off and you do really know about it.
what iv' learned about riding my crm is that it runs better at full wack!!! ok i'v only had it five months but it still shi** the life out of me, i think this is a gready bike it love's nothing more than petrol and abuse. may be you need to give it more throttle,,,, you will stop well before the bikes had enough,,. thats a fact,
as to servicing the carb is a must, iv fitted an in line fillter to the fuel line which works well, changed the pilot jet and a good strip down and clean works wonders .
always have a spare spark plug
these bike eat them,( well mine does)
the powervalve is easy to set just read the service page on this site. as to your leak check your pipes first,
however if you have got a power problem this could be a combination of your water leak and power problem (head gasket).
the only other thing i change alot is the gear oil, also greese your wheele bearings more often than not . but most of all have loads of fun.

Hi, thanx for the reply. I think the problem with my bike is that it seems to be running rich. Keeps oiling up the spark plug, bought a new one. Alot of oil seems to be coming out end of exhaust to, not oily smoke though. Ii've taken the exhaust system off today and left it to soak in petrol.

I've checked the Oil pump markings and that looks fine, checked the air mixture screw and that was out by 1/4 turn.

I'm not sure whether the jetting is right, it has a full RSV exhaust system with stage2 reeds. Gonna buy another pilot jet as it seems to idol arracticly. Phoning Leisure trail On tues when they open for more info.

When I took the bike out, it doesn't wanna rev up the rev range, so i'm hoping it's down to the mixture.

How much was you after for the sprocket? Hope that when it's all sorted I can ride it very hard and fast. It's doing me head in not being able to.

cheers folkes
