crankshaft choas continues.
not content with loosing both balance shaft and crankcase keys, put them in an envelop- I must have posted em to santa or something?! I find out that there is a problem with the crank..
first the good news, gear box an selector mechanism back together,
I decided to quickly put the rest of it back together, to see what else has gone wrong/missing as this is seriously draggin out now!
and the screw going inside the grank to hold the 3 cogs on is really really stiff.. to the point the threads are wearing
its defintitely the right bolt - as its the only one! and was bagged up with the 3 cogs..
got the screw in about 2 cm when I thought nope this is definitely somethin wrong!
any one have any suggestions?

Hmmmmmmm
I vaguely remember someone saying you should have bought a spare engine rather than rebuild your own.......was it me, might have been
Surely, never has so much work, been done to one CRM, by one person.
A site medal is due soon from the moderators for your patience with the bike.

Re: crankshaft choas continues.
Run a correct size tap down all the threads with some coppaslip. This will clean out any crap that has found its way in and straighten any wonky threads. I do this every time I rebuild an engine. Do check the threads on the bolts as these can often be the culprits (Use a die in a clamp and screw the bolts through.).

Re: crankshaft choas continues.
glad to know I'm not alone in my suffering/enjoyment!
er yeah a spare engine might have worked out alright, might have lucked out with some of these parts.
managed to borrow a tap an die so will give the threads a goin over..
didnt fit the clutch in yet, found a black an decker work mate is pretty handy engine holder-- actually clutch bearings look pretty clean, reckon thats not so hard to take another look at later,,,, especially in light of the milling done on the clutch basket, might yet end up replacing the whole thing.
then just kick start, covers, magneto side - pulse generators- gear sensor,
is it safe for me to put the head on yet? worry about that gasket a bit more
i could maybe put the engine back into frame, etc - get it on wheels again - the missus is gettin pissed off with bits everywhere.
did i buy the bike or is it a weird form of hire purchase?
