Cleaning bearings?
So, I have taken my crank cases to have some welding around the oil drain plug tidied up before I put the engine back together. I had already been to Leisure Trail last weekend and got myself everything I needed for the rebuild.
Now it would seem that the welder has left a few tiny bits of metal wiring inside the cases, as well as a lot of metal dust.
This seems to have got into the bearing's as they are all very stiff and gritty now when there was no problem with them before.
Am I right to be angry with the welder for ruining my bearing's, or should I be angry with myself for leaving them in the cases?
Can anyone recommend a good way for cleaning, or should I just look to replace all of them?
I am incredibly frustrated by this as I was going to begin the rebuild tonight but now I can't.

Re: Cleaning bearings?
You mean the new bearings?
How about a powerful vacuum cleaner and an proper blast with an air line.
Then lots of flushing with parafin?
You'll have to be extra careful and make sure every bit is out

Think you'll end up replacing them though...

Re: Cleaning bearings?
Not the new bearings, I hadn't installed them yet luckily. It's the old, but good ones.
I'm really asking if this is my fault for leaving them in, or if I should try and claim something back from the welder?
Also, on this note, there is a bearing with no access from the rear of it to knock it out. If you know which I mean then how do I remove it?

Re: Cleaning bearings?
Your fault for not covering the bearings I'm afraid.
You need a blind bearing puller.
Doubtful that you will get all the bits out .

Re: Cleaning bearings?
It's worth comparing the cost of new from LT with a bearing factor place such as,

The savings can be substantial.
