where did you get a new crank from for that kind of money. please can you let me know timo, timo wrote:hi ed,
just had my crank bearings go, started to make a wining nosie and just as the previous post said about give the rotor a shake i did and found movment, you should also feel it vibrating though your seat.
as to the cost iv spent £200 so far with LT. however around £90 of this was on the water pump as i found this to worn ,its not just a case of changing the seal i'v had to buy a new shaft ,new mechanical seal, new bearing and finally a new seal,
Thanks

full choke no revs routine has worked all on my smokers accept my dt 175 which needed a half mile full sprint bump lol. definately check the flywheel for play back and forth movement would mean crank bearings and shafted. they can wine and vibrate without traces of play so as said get a second opponion. main bearings might course the crank seals to leak too have u checked the colour of your gear oil.
best of luck

well the update is that the mains, big end etc seem to be all ok - took the whole lot to the place that said mains were shot and it had them totally stumped as she is silky smooth with no wear at all. They have said change the small end bearing (v slight wear) and the rings as there is signs of blow by, but bores seem ok.
I've looked again at the balance shaft myself (didn't take that to them) and guess what - there are marks on the counterweight end though I can't feel anything. Speaking to LT they reckon it's shot and thats whats caused the noise in the first place - about £120 to do though. As this is on top of the £160 it's going to cost for gaskets, seals, replacement bolts etc to get the engine back together I'm going to leave it for a while. they don't reckon it will damage anything else - just get a bit noisier etc as time goes on.
